Wonders of Geoffrey Bawa

Deshamanya Geoffrey Manning Bawa, FRIBA (23 July 1919 – 27 May 2003) was a Sri Lankan architect.

He is the most renowned architect in Sri Lanka and was among the most influential Asian architects of his generation. He is the principal force behind what is today known globally as ‘tropical modernism’

    You will be met by a Sunshine travels representative and be transferred to “The Mud House in Anamaduwa” a rural village in the wilderness, experience the rural village architecture, staying in house built in clay with thatched roofs done with woven coconut leaves (all basic facilities available).

  • Day2

    Morning you could experience a traditional breakfast at “The Mud House”

    Later join in a demonstration on how mud houses are built using ancient village techniques, there after you could visit a local village and swim in the local tank/large pond.

    Cooking lessons are possible either in the morning or afternoon, in order to prepare the meals for lunch or dinner you could use harvested fresh vegetables and fruits from the farm and directly to the kitchen.

    You can discover how to prepare some of the delicious local recipes from scratch.

    The daily lessons are usually comprised of teaching whatever is on the menu for that given day, but the hotel would adhere if there are any dishes in particular you would like to learn while adding them to the menu.

    After Breakfast at “The Mud House – Anamaduwa” leave to Anuradhapura,

    Anuradhapura is a major city in Sri Lanka, it is the capital city of North Central Province, Sri Lanka and the capital of Anuradhapura District. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. It was 1st capital of the Kingdom of Rajarata after Tambapanni and Upatissa Nuwara.

    On completion proceeds to Kandalama, explore the hotel and the surroundings, a famous creation of Geoffrey Bawa

    After Breakfast leave to visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is also known as the lions rock, 5th Century Rock Fortress in Sigiriya (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) considered by some as the 8th wonder of the world.

    Experience a Cultural sight around from the top of the Rock,

    On completion visit Polonnaruwa, which is the second historical capital of Sri Lanka with remains of many ancient buildings,

    Later in the evening return back to the hotel in Kandalama for Dinner and overnight stay.

    After Breakfast leave to Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

    Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the central province. It is the second largest city in the country after Colombo. It was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka.

    Check In to the Hotel in Kandy

    later in the evening visit the Temple of the tooth relic

    Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka it is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha.

    Later Witness a Cultural Show in Kandy.

    Back to the hotel for Dinner and overnight stay.

    After Breakfast leave to Nuwara Eliya,

    Nuwara Eliya is a city, in the hill country of the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city name meaning is "city on the plain (table land)" or "city of light". The city is the administrative capital of Nuwara Eliya District, with a picturesque landscape and temperate climate. It is located at an altitude of 1,868 m (6,128 ft) and is considered to be the most important location for Tea production in Sri Lanka.

    The city is overlooked by Pidurutalagala, the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka,

    En route to NuwaraEliya via a Tea Plantation and processing centre, proceed the journey to NuwaraEliya.

    Check In to the hotel in Nuwaraeliya | later in the afternoon commence a city tour in Nuwaraeliya.

    After Breakfast leave to Tangalle.

    travel out of the hills and head southwest to stay in the Last House, Geoffrey Bawa’s final creation which was designed in 1997.

    After Breakfast leave to Proceed to Galle.

    En-route visiting the Ruhuna University Campus and office building in Matara, designed by Mr. Bawa (subject to permission being granted from authorities).

    Afternoon visit the famous Dutch Fort in Galle, constructed in 1792 (UNESCO World Heritage Site).

    after breakfat leave to Ahungalla.

    Visit the Heritance Ahungalla Hotel designed by Geoffrey Bawa.

    Visit and experience Lunuganga in Bentota, the local residence and lifetime creation of Mr. Bawa. Guided tour will be conducted in
    the property.

    Overnight stay at Bentota.

    Transfer to Colombo, En-route visit Hotel Serendib, Club Villa and Blue Water Hotel in Wadduwa, all designs of Geoffrey Bawa.

    Upon arrival check in a hotel in Colombo

    After Breakfast commence a city tour in Colombo visiting Mahaweli Headquarters Building in Hyde Park Corner designed by Mr. Bawa, Geoffrey Bawa’s residence at No. 11, 33rd lane Bagatale Rd and other works of Bawa.
